An alias usually forwards to another mailbox. Customers may keep an alias for years, disable it, or create different aliases for different sites. That differs from an expiring public inbox.

Keep privacy and identity separate

Send verification to the address the customer provided. Do not try to uncover its private destination. Control free credits and referrals at the account level rather than assuming each address belongs to a different person.
